Water Conservation

The average person uses 80-100 gallons of water per day, which could easily be reduced to 20-50 gallons with some basic water recycling and conservation practices. Provided below are some tips and examples on how to reduce water consumption by up to 95%:

Replace leaking valves and faucets to help save water

Conserving water can be as simple as not leaving it running when not in use

Low-flow shower heads use only about half the water of regular flow shower heads, reducing water consumption by up to 20%

Washing dishes by hand can save up to 75% of the water used by dish washers, reducing a household's total water consumption by another 20%

Compost toilets reduce total water use by at least 25% (and may even eliminate the requirement for land owners to get DEQ approval for the installation and expense of septic and sewage systems)

Using a steam washer to wash laundry saves about 30% of the water and energy used by ordinary washing machines

Grey water recycling systems are great way to save water. Given that most of the water we use goes down the drain anyway, why not recycle grey water for a lawn or a garden?

Livestock accounts for over 50% of all water consumption in the US, so even eating a vegetarian diet helps to conserve water
