Homemade Health Products: Teas, Infusions & Decoctions
Foods, herbs and other natural substances may be prepared in a variety of different ways, which may be used for aromatic, nutritional, medicinal and many other purposes. See below for information on producing your own natural remedies, green cleaning supplies, non-toxic personal hygiene and other natural homemade health products.
Teas, Infusions & DecoctionsTeas: cover 1tsp dried, coarsely ground plant (leaves and/or flowers) with 1C boiling water, and steep for 5 minutes. Strain and add honey (or sugar substitute) to taste.
Infusions: cover 2tsp chopped fresh or dried, coarsely ground plant (seeds, berries, stems, bark and/or roots) with 1C boiling water and steep 15-30 minutes. Strain and add honey (or sugar substitute) to taste.
Decoctions: in a large saucepan over high heat, bring 1C water to a boil. Add 1tbsp chopped fresh or dried, coarsely ground plant (seeds, berries, stems, bark and/or roots). Boil plant matter in water 30-45 minutes, stirring ocassionally. Strain and add honey (or sugar substitute) to taste.
*For medicinal use, drink up to 3C daily for 5-10 days; may also be add to bath water for herbal baths
