Daily Sunlight
Daily Sunlight
Sunlight is necessary for all life on this planet. It plays a vital role in the circadian rhythms of the earth and is
one of the greatest disinfectants known to man (hence the use of UV light for
water purification). Sunlight also helps balance PH and
stimulates, yet regulates the immune system to reduce susceptibility to infections, illness and autoimmune disorders.
Detoxification via lymphatic, digestive and dermal
systems is improved with sunlight, as is muscular, cardiovascular and skeletal health.
Balance is Key
Rest and darkness increase melatonin and serotonin production, but much of the serotonin is converted into melatonin.
Sunlight on the other hand suppresses melatonin production while increasing the body's production of melanin, serotonin,
vitamin D and endorphins. Balance between darkness, light, melatonin and serotonin improves general mental and emotional
health, strengthens endocrine, immune, nervous and reproductive systems, helps regulate
sleep cycles, appetite, weight and metabolism, helps
the body to produce and balance hormones and other body chemicals.
Fifteen to thirty minutes of daily sunlight exposure is sufficient. Excess sunlight can cause dehydration, sunburns and
wrinkles, but excessive sunlight is unlikely to cause skin cancer. (Chemicals used in sunscreens, tanning
lotions or oils, cosmetics and other commercial personal hygiene products are much more likely to cause skin cancer than
excessive sunlight exposure. In fact, sunlight helps prevent skin cancer, partially by increasing the production of melanin
and vitamin D).
