The following whole food recipes are principally vegetarian, although ingredients can always be added or substituted to make them vegan, or even non-vegetarian. (See pantry basics for information on customizing these and other recipes to suit your needs).

Candied Yams
4 large yams
1/2C brown sugar
1/2C melted butter
1/2 tsp sea salt
1 large bag of marshmallows

Skin, wash and cut yams into chunks, steam in salted water until tender and drain. Put in a casserole dish and pour melted butter over top; spread brown sugar then marshmallows evenly over top. Bake 20-30 minutes or until marshmallows are slightly browned.
