The following whole food recipes are principally vegetarian, although ingredients can always be added or substituted to make them vegan, or even non-vegetarian. (See pantry basics for information on customizing these and other recipes to suit your needs).

Orange Candy
7C sugar
3C water
4C chopped orange peels

Combine water, orange peels and 3C sugar in a large pot and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes. Add 2C sugar, bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes. Add remaining sugar, bring to a boil again, reduce heat and simmer until clear and thickened. Strain, spread out on waxed paper, then let cool. Place orange peels in a bag with sugar, then close the top and shake to coat in sugar. Lay out on a brown paper bag to dry and harden, turning over occasionally to help dry.
