The following whole food recipes are principally vegetarian, although ingredients can always be added or substituted to make them vegan, or even non-vegetarian. (See pantry basics for information on customizing these and other recipes to suit your needs).

Cow Pie Cookies
4C sugar
4C rolled oats
1C milk
1C butter
1C peanut butter
1/4C cocoa powder

In a large saucepan mix together sugar, milk, butter and cocoa. Boil 5 minutes, remove from heat, then mix in rolled oats (or barley) and peanut butter. Set by the spoonful onto a sheet or two of waxed paper and let cool until hardened.

* Note: rolled barley may be used rather than oats; other nut/seed butters may be used instead of peanut butter
