The following whole food recipes are principally vegetarian, although ingredients can always be added or substituted to make them vegan, or even non-vegetarian. (See pantry basics for information on customizing these and other recipes to suit your needs).

Homemade Chili
2C cooked veggie burger
2C cooked kidney beans
1C cooked soybeans (or red beans)
1/2C tomato sauce
1/2C salsa
1 chopped tomato
1/2 chopped onion
1/2 chopped bell pepper
1/4C diced green chilies
2 cloves minced garlic
1tbsp lime juice
2tsp chili powder
2tsp cumin
1tsp starch
1tsp brown sugar
1/2tsp sea salt
pinch of red pepper flakes

Saute onion, bell pepper and garlic in oil; set aside. Put beans and veggie burger in a large pot, cover with water, then stir in remaining ingredients (including onion, bell pepper and garlic) and simmer 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Top with grated cheese and serve with cornbread (optional).

* May use hamburger instead of veggie burger
