The following whole food recipes are principally vegetarian, although ingredients can always be added or substituted to make them vegan, or even non-vegetarian. (See pantry basics for information on customizing these and other recipes to suit your needs).

Deep Fried Appetizers
Onion Rings: slice onions to make rings, coat in crepe batter and deep fry until crispy, golden and floating at the top of the oil.

Deep Fried Mushrooms: wash mushrooms and remove stems. Coat in crepe batter and deep fry until crispy, golden and floating at the top of the oil; serve with ranch for dip.

Jalapeno Poppers: wash jalapenos, cut off stems, split in half lengthwise and remove seeds. Put peppers in a bowl of boiling water and let sit 30-60 minutes or until softened. Fill peppers with cream cheese, then coat in crepe batter and deep fry until crispy, golden and floating at the top of the oil.

Mozzarella Sticks: cut mozzarella cheese into 2" long 1/2" wide sticks, then coat in crepe batter and deep fry until crispy, golden and floating at the top of the oil; serve with ranch for dip.

French Fries: wash and cut potatoes to make fries; rinse again and fry in oil until golden brown and floating at the top of the oil. Take out, strain off oil and sprinkle salt over top.

› To bake fries, place on a cookie sheet and lightly coat all sides of the fries with oil. Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown on top, then turn over and bake until other sides are also golden brown; sprinkle with salt over top and serve.
