The following whole food recipes are principally vegetarian, although ingredients can always be added or substituted to make them vegan, or even non-vegetarian. (See pantry basics for information on customizing these and other recipes to suit your needs).

Apple Butter
1C apple cider
1/2C apple syrup
1tsp cinnamon
1/2tsp nutmeg
1/4tsp allspice
1/4tsp clove powder
4C apples (peeled, cored and sliced)

Bring cider to a boil in a large pot; add remaining ingredients, reduce heat and simmer, stirring until thickened. Puree in a blender, bottle and refrigerate.
